An Ode to a Cup of Coffee

In About Me, Life's Quirks on 18/05/2012 at 09:49

When I awake every morning there is nothing more pleasurable than the thought of a piping hot cup of coffee.  My typical morning starts with herding cats aka my three school aged children out of the house so that they can make it to school on time.

Typically I’m in a bit of a sleepy daze when my wife leaves for work, since she’s typically the first person to go.  But I’m up, half awake and half I don’t know what.  But then the light bulb goes off in my head, the image of a cup of coffee emerges and I’m excited.

Unfortunately, this cup is not real.  It’s a figment of my imagination that I must find a way to bring to fruition.  Now if you love coffee as much as I do, you will find a way to take this image from your head and make it real.  Preferably in the largest cup you can find in your cupboard.

That’s when I hear a voice faintly calling from behind the cupboard door, in a voice sounding a lot like Mickey Mouse saying “pick me, I’m ready to be filled with dark roasted ambrosia.”  Low and behold it is my Mickey Mouse coffee cup anxiously awaiting its divine purpose to be fulfilled.

At that point, my eyes are a flutter with excitement and the expectation of that first cup, the most important cup of the day.  And then it happens.  Like the joy of a breeze on a hot day in July, I take my first sip.  Oh but that’s not enough, I take another, and another, and another and then I arrive at that restful place of supreme joy.

This thing called coffee has awaken the lion inside.  Has prepared him for the day ahead and he is happy.  If you have suck a love for coffee feel free to add your commentary on personal ode to this simple pleasure of life.
